Time Away From My Friends

What is does it mean to have a friend? Someone who will always keep you company? Someone you can trust? Someone who will always have your back? I think in today’s world there are very few people who do all. Most of them just look for someone to keep them entertained, or help them when they are bored, or maybe when they can’t do anything on their own. 

That is why I was very proud to say that I had one true friend, who had never let me down me down, ever - my Kindle. When there is no internet, Netflix and Youtube let me down, when I can’t go to the library, hard copy books let me down, when it rains, people like my so called friends let me down, but my Kindle never did.

Until I was forced to go away on vacation this Summer, without my Kindle, laptop, or any internet, i hadn’t realized the ugly truth - the only people things that stick around are your shadow, and you, and that they are your only true friends. You can always make new ones, like popsicles and ice cream, and sometimes even annoyance, but it isn’t the same obviously.

I think physically being away from my friends wasn’t uncomfortable for me at all, but of course, meeting them at the start of the school year was very satisfying.  I think you can never really be away from your friends...new ones always come around though sometimes, it feels impossible.
